OUR HISTORY
Forest
Products Manufacturing Company, Inc. was founded in 1940. It is located in
Jasper, Indiana. Jasper is located in the gently rolling hills of southern
Indiana which produce some of the finest hardwood trees in the world. Jasper
is also a community with a deep German heritage. Blessed with skilled
craftsmen and cabinet makers, it is no coincidence that Jasper is home to an
abundance of wood related industries.
Forest Products has been supplying quality dimension and custom wood
component parts to various industries for over 60 years. Home, office,
school, and library furniture manufacturers are all clients of Forest
Products. The healthcare industry and the kitchen cabinet industry are also
major markets for our products.
Originally employing only six people, Forest Products intended simply to
provide the service of cutting defects from lumber to produce crating and
pallet type products. But after World War II the demand for wood products
increased. With the skilled labor and basic woodworking equipment in place,
Forest Products began producing other products in demand; fan blades, venetian blind slats, drapery hangers to name a few. As the company grew,
word of the high quality and variety of capabilities of Forest Products
spread. Employment increased in the 1950’s and 1960’s. As the baby boom
generation was being born, the kitchen cabinet industry took center stage.
With demand for furniture and kitchen cabinet parts increasing dramatically,
Forest Products added equipment and employees and grew even more to roughly
60 employees. In 1975 Forest Products expanded to a second location in
central Missouri. Mo—Wood Products was born. Mo—Wood Products, located in
California, Missouri, allowed Forest Products to better diversify. Mo—Wood,
having the ability to market kiln dried lumber and semi and fully machined
parts, took over manufacturing much of the kitchen cabinet business of the
company. Thus allowing Forest Products to continue to expand its value added
products to the office furniture and home furniture markets.
With
Mo—Wood ideally located to service our customers to the west and Forest
Products seated in the “wood office furniture capital of the world”
employment settled near 100. Both companies are equipped with a wide variety
of woodworking equipment. Couple this with the workforce of hard working
skilled craftsmen our companies are ideally positioned to meet your hardwood
component needs. As times change, needs change. Forest Products is well
positioned for the changing future. |
